The Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin is the signature spec series for Mazda Motorsports. The cars start as MX-5 road cars from the Mazda Hiroshima, Japan factory before being transported to a United States based engineering development partner in Daytona Beach, Florida. There, they are transformed into full-fledged race cars via a full disassembly of the production car, a roll
cage is welded to the car's chassis, and more than 250 motorsports-specific parts are added. Lastly, to ensure fair competition, the Mazda SKYACTIV 2.0 liter engines are sealed so horsepower figures across the field identical.
McCumbee McAleer Racing (MMR) entered the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series in 2015 as a multi-car team and continues to field several MX-5 Cup Miata's today. The MX-5 Cup series is the home of MMR's humble beginnings and over the span of nearly a decade competing in the series, they have earned over 15 wins, more than 35 podiums, and a dozen poles.
